I want to get my boyfriend a comic book for his birthday?

My boyfriend likes superhero movies and has read the scott pilgrim ones. I was thinking about getting him green arrow: quiver but he hasnt read the previous ones. which would you reccomend?

Has he only seen the movies? It's hard jumping into a comic if you don't know what's going on.
I don't know what he likes so I can't say "you should by such-and-such", but since you said he likes superhero movies, I'll just assume that he might like...

Spider-Man: I recommend starting with Ultimate Spider-Man #1. I have that one at home.
Spider-Man Brand New Day, I think is a great place to start.

Batman: Graphic Novels are $20-25 bucks. That about covers a birthday gift. Comics are generally $2.99-$3.99. If I had a choice, I would personally get a graphic novel (of a character that I know he likes/is interested in), because it covers a bunch of information, and generally isn't that hard to get into. Now I'm not saying to go out and get "Batman: The Killing Joke", but something like "Hush" I twink would be great for him, because it covers a bunch of characters. It has Killer Croc, the Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Thomas Elliot (Hush), , I personally think is a good idea. If you just wanted to get a single comic, then I would get him either the characters, well, Batman, or Nightwing. Don't just grab a random comic numbered something like (just an example) Batman #243, because whenever I do that, I am generally confused on what's going on, like it's either a part II to the previous issue, or it is in the middle of a series (for example, Spider-Man Noir, it would be odd to get the second issue out of a 5 issue series, if that makes sense).

Superman: I have a very good issue, it's a Superman/Batman crossover, so he would get the best of 2 characters. It's Superman/Batman #8. It has Supergirl in it, so that's another bonus. The year is 2004.

I PERSONALLY recommend Superman: The Doomsday Wars (it is a graphic novel, though). That one wasn't hard to understand at all. I don't think it would be hard to understand to someone who is new to Superman comics, as long as they know who Doomsday is. It had Brainiac, Doomsday, and the Justice League characters in it. Very very good. I believe it was 1999.

Please don't grab comics off the shelf just because they look cool or something, lol. It gets very confusing if it's in the middle of a series. I look at what issue number it is, what characters are involved, and sometimes I look inside to see what's actually going on.

EDIT: Transformers also have comics. He might like those too if he likes to movies.
