Question about "Bows", as in archery?

Two or three years ago, I had a fiberglass composite bow which I loved! Eventually I broke/lost all the arrows and lost intrest, (I was young!).
Of course after I learned the meaning of "nostaliga" in my English class, I've saved up some crispy greenbacks, and decided to buy a new Bow.
After some research I've gained a pretty stable idea of the pros + cons of composite and compound bows, but I never accually handled a Compound Bow, so my question is;
What bow is better for long ranged target shooting at stationary targets,
AND
Which bow would be better for a 6' 4" (roughly) individual, because I've noticed compound bows are extremly smmaaalllll....

Also I would like to repeat that I'm not intrested in Hunting, only target shooting!

Please reframe from answering unless you have accual bow experience, thanks. :)

If you want long range target shooting, try out the world of FITA archery. The men shoot all the way back from 100 yards. The weapon of choice, a FITA Recurve Bow or a target compound bow. Here are some pros and cons.

With a recurve bow, the learning curve is steeper. When you buy a recurve bow you're not buying just the technology, even with all the bells and whistles on it, it's still a bow with no letoff, it has no Release Aid and no rear sight. You need to learn to shoot it well to perform well, and it'll take longer to get off the ground than with a compound bow. Good thing is, once you learn a recurve, you can switch to a compound if you want to, the reverse is not always true.

Compounds are the accuracy kings though. This is more evident at the longer distances. With magnified sights, mechanical release, and Peep Sight, you have the advantage in terms of accuracy. My first day of shooting, I bought a recurve, and I met this gentleman at the range that had just unwrapped his first ever bow too. His was a compound, after 5 minutes of tinkering with it he was putting 6 arrows in a group about 2" wide from 20 yards. It has taken me 8 years to top what he did in 5 minutes. This is what you're buying with a compound.

As for the size of a compound, it doesn't matter much because with a compound you're shooting with a release. Some people do shoot compounds with fingers, and those people will tend to stick with the longest compounds made.

Once you hit the advanced/elite range though, the difference between the two will start to go away. I've seen the top recurve archer in california beat out one of the pro shooters from Hoyt in a match. When the wind blows, the recurver will have an advantage over compound shooters, specially in timed events.

If you're in the US, go to www.usarchery.org. Find a range near you and have a look around, also find a tournament near you and watch some of the elites duke it out.

Oh a word about the brands, Pse is good for compounds, but I wouldn't go for a Pse Recurve even if someone were to give me one. At 6'4", you're looking at a 70" recurve most likely.
