My adult oscar's face is turning black on the right side only. Can anyone suggest why?

It currently has hole in the head disease and I have been treating it by making frequent water changes and adding aquarium salt. No luck so far, but all of a sudden the right side of his body is turning black. There is a clear distinction when looking straight at his face...he is grey on the left and black on the right...a perfect line. Can anyone offer advice?

This is strange, I am not to sure what could be causing your Oscars face to turn black. One thing is that fish will change color due to mood changes, and reactions to stress. Also, like with my albino Oscar, when it was young it was all white, now that it is maturing it is getting more red appearing on the side of it's body. It would really help to see a photo of your fish to see what this looks like.

For the HITH, I will leave a link at the bottom about treatment for it, it is full of good info. I have bought an Oscar from a LFS that had HITH just so I could treat it and then find it a home, so I have had some dealings with it, and water quality is only part of the problem. Diet is another, you need to keep it on a good pellet diet, most of the pellet foods now contain all the vitamins needed for a healthy diet. You can also add vitamins to their diet, you can find some at the pet store, but I know of a much cheaper way that works just as well. Go to the drug store and pick up some liquid multi-vitamin, make sure it has no flavor or anything added to it. Take a small amount of the liquid vitamin and pour it on a dish, then take some of the pellets and roll them around in the liquid, then feed them to the fish immediately or they will get mushy. I only do this once a week for a fish suffering from HITH, once a month for my Oscars that I keep.
