Canon EOS Rebel T1i or Sony Alpha nex-5?
upgrading from point-and-shoot.
they're both around the same price.
looking for more professionalism and full video capabilities.
something that can last me for a while, where i don't have to worry about a better, later model.
basically should i go for the DSLR or a micro-thirds?
do the pros (portability/size) of a micro-thirds outweigh an actual DSLR or does the micro-thirds limit me in possibilities/full potential?

Look at it this way. How many lenses are ther for that nex? And what do they cost? A canon 50mm f1.8 is very affordable, a macro lens is more expnesive but nowhere near what it would cost on the nex. And do you want an electronic viewfinder?
I'd advice you to go to a shop and handle these and also look at nikon's D3100.
