Keeping a pet bird safe?

we have 2 cats that just love to nock a hamster cage of the counter (the hamster is to smart for lazy figaro, and gets away, or at least the smart one does), we would like to get a conure but dont want to risk losing it to my fat cats jaws. Is there anyway to stop my cats from nocking down a bird cage and eating the bird?

What you need to do, and yes its possible, is teach your cat that she can't do these thing. She needs to learn that other animals are not toys. It will be difficult but it is possible.

To start off put the cage up high on a bookcase or something the cat can't climb. But everyday sit with the bird and the cat and if the cat starts to show aggression towards the bird correct it.
