What I need to know about archery arrows?

I just stared Archery and there are so much information about arrows, like the amount of grains, Spirals of a arrow, and the 4 digit number like 1499 or 1223. please explain every thing i need to know so i dont buy anything wrong.

The main thing about choosing the right arrow is spine. Spine is determined by that number you mentioned. The number can represent many things, depending on the manufacturer and model, but it all boils down to some measure of how stiff the arrow is. For instance, with aluminum arrows the number refer to the diameter and wall thickness, the bigger the number the stiffer the shaft. Now if you talk about carbon arrows and you see something like 450, 600, 580, 1000 etc, this is an actual spine measurement, the higher the number the weaker the shaft. Then there are carbon arrows that are measured by bow poundage, like certain Gold Tip models, so it goes like 3545 or 4555, the numbers represent poundage ranges.

2 things you need to know when choosing spine, you need to know your Draw Length, and your bow's poundage at that particular draw length. Once you have these two numbers, go to what ever manufacturer's website and download their spine chart. You look up your numbers on the chart and also pick the type of bow you shoot.

Now you mentioned spirals of an arrow, I'm thinking you're talking about the fletching? Don't worry too much about these, get yourself some feathers and you're good. Basically, get the proper spine and you can shoot without fletching and have the arrow go in the same group. So, when picking arrows, it boils down to picking the manufacturer, the model that is good, then pick the spine.
