How do you shoot an arrow? on the left or right of the Arrow Rest?

I am Right Handed, and have seen right-handed archers shoot the arrow with it resting on the left. I prefer to shoot it on the right of the rest. Do you HAVE TO shoot it on the left?

Well, before they built rests into bows you would rest the arrow on your hand, and tilt the bow at a slight angle to the right to keep the arrow there on the left, for a Right Hand archer, and keep the arrow on the right for left hand. Now, this become where the rests should be.

But if you have a left-handed bow with the rest on the side you want, or have an old bow with no rest, and can comfortably and accurately shoot that way, go for it.
