setting up the right arrows for Compound Bow?

since Bow Hunting based on KE and not speed .... im shooting about 90 KE , my bow is drawed at 65-70, the arrows i use are Easton Carbon storm (400) with 100gr tips ... would it be a good idea to up the weight of the arrow in order to get more KE, plus whats the difference between vanes and blazers
so should i make my arrow it self heavier or just the tip/broadheads

Justin I could be wrong but that is a lot of kinetic energy.I know that bows are faster today but did you figure that out correctly?Is the total weight of your arrow 500 grains?Based on what you have told us,you are flinging that arrow at over 280 fps and I find that a little hard to swallow.Based on Easton's chart,the heaviest 400 series arrow is 9.8 grains an inch.Multiply that by say a 30 inch arrow and the weight is 294 grains.Add 100 for your broadhead and the total weight of your arrow is 394 grains.Using a generous 300 fps and the weight of your arrow-394 x 300 x 300 divided by 450,240..your KE is 78 and 3/4 pounds.I doubt that you are moving that fast.Go to the Easton Arrow weight chart and see if you are using the correct spline for your bow-it will ask you that in the chart,is it dual cam-single or what.If you find that you are under splined,correct that first.Then the weight of the broadhead can be determined by your F.O.C. which stands for front of center balance.To make it simple this is how that works-lets say a 30 inch arrow should balance somewhere around the 15 inch mark,put a mark right there-now put your broadhead on and lets say that it balances right at the 18 inch mark-that is 3 inches past center which means that you have a 10% foc balance which is ok-I prefer 12% myself.I could be wrong but I think that between 10 and 13 % is what is recommended for stable arrow flight.Go out and run your arrow through a chronograph to find what your arrow speed is and then you can figure out your kinetic energy correctly.Vanes are longer and heavier and provide a more stable flight path than the lighter blazers
