Is a Traditional longbow a good investment for me?

I have pretty good experience with archery but mostly on a shooting range with a weak bow. I recently went to a crossbow/bow store and found out the really nice, advanced compact bows are $800-$1000, which i can't afford, but the traditional hardwood bows are less expensive and actually more intriguing to me. I was wondering if anyone had advice for me before i go back in and ask more about it?

It really depends on where you are and what you intent to do with it. If you are just shooting in your back yard, feel free to get what ever bow makes you happy. If you are like me and hunt in open areas (Arizona) then a Traditional Bow isn't the right answer. You could use one there don't get me wrong, but in AZ if you get a shot withing 40 yards your lucky. That is a bit far for a traditional bow. If you are Hunting in other areas like the midwest where you can tree stand or blind hunt then you can usually get a lot closer. I have also hunted in North Dakota a lot and most of my shots there have been within 20 yards. A very do able shot for a traditional bow. You might also want to check out some other brand of bows. I know that Mission bows are a lot less expensive and shoot really nice. My friend shoots one and he likes it a lot. They are made by mathews so you know your getting a good product. Other companies to look at are Diamond Archery. They are made by bowteck. Not my favorite but a good bow company non the less. You could also check out Pse, Bear, and Martin. They have some reasonably priced bows.
