Can this Compound Bow ever hunt again?

I have two old compound bows, a Darton 600WX and an old Bear Whitetail Hunter. I recently took the Darton to a bow show to see if it needed any work, and the guy at the archery shop told me that I couldn't hunt with it. it used steel cables that you couldn't get replacements for that could snap on me at any time and would likely injure me. He said he wouldn't even recommend pulling the bowstring back ever again, and proceeded to try to sell me a brand new bow from his shop. Is this information accurate, or was this guy taking me for a ride? Can those steel cables be replaced with more modern materials?

The guy was right. They cannot repair the steel cables because they are not made any more.And they are a danger. I was shooting a Martin Cougar bow many years ago and the steel cable broke and the metal teardrop that it attached to came flying around the cam and hit me in the chest knocking me down. A goose egg the size of my fist swelled up where it hit me at. If it had hit me in the head it may have killed me. Don't shoot the bow. It just isn't worth it.
