How is writing poetry like Christmas morning?
Christmas morning reminds me of writing poetry.
Poets carefully pick their words,
like a child who goes after the perfect box.
One may be attracted to bright wrapping
and the glittery gold bow on top,
or pick up a gift and rattle it
to see the sound it makes.
Some go for the biggest box,
while others know the finest treasure
lies inside the smallest of gift.
Some frantically tear away to get what's
inside, throwing all caution to the wind,
while others go at it with methodic precision,
using a knife to cut the tape,
folding the gift wrap neatly beside them,
patiently waiting to discover the contents.
But when it's all over
and the excitement has dimmed
there on the shelf, the presents sit,
collecting dust, forgotten.
I'm afraid no one will "get" this, do you?
You have described a lot of poets and styles. Hopefully some of the presents will be 'played' with again or at least 'regifted'! lol
